I'm Home!!!

I'm finally home!  After almost 3 months of basic training and then an additional 7 months of advanced training I have actually moved back into my house with Matt. It doesn't seem real yet. It probably won't until I've been here for a week or so. I have the next 12 days as leave and then I will report to my new post to inproccess. I am not sure what unit I will be assigned to yet. I'm hoping it will be in the same Battalion that Matt is in.

After graduation I had to begin my follow-on training and when I say after graduation I literally mean after graduation. The ceremony ended around 1500 and we had to report to the school at 1630! We were not happy. Several of us had family there and wanted to spend some time with them. One of the guys just didn't go to class that day or the next to spend time with his family. Our instructor either didn't notice or didn't care so he wasn't even counted absent. I did go to class even though Matt drove up from home to be with me. His cousin a SFC came to the ceremony as well.

The graduation was not too bad. Though the one distinguished honor grad and us two honor grads from my company had to fight to get our certificates! Our company didn't send our information over to Battalion so they didn't know that we were supposed to get the awards! I called the company and told them that we weren't down to get honor grad. The SGT who answered said he hadn't realized that any of us had gotten high enough scores. He did email them the information, but since it was so late we were not included in the program. I didn't care so much about that as I did the certificate, which we did get. I worked hard for my grade and wanted my award!

Two males from another company were given an award for their PT scores. My score is higher than both of theirs, but I didn't receive anything. My company must not have even thought about it. Sometimes that is so frustrating. I work hard to do well. I know that it will happen again that's just the way it is sometimes.

I did get some very nice things said to me though. My SGT's must have been talking about me or something because one day 3 of them came up to me at different times. First one of my squad leaders told me that he enjoyed having me in the PLT and that he thinks that I will go far in the Army. Then another SSG stopped me in the barracks and gave me his SGT patch. He said that he had been told by several people that he should give it to me. He had just been promoted and wanted to give his rank to someone so he picked me. I wear it under my collar on my ACUs. Later that night my Platoon SGT, a SFC told Matt that I was the best soldier he's ever lead. I was really surprised by that because I know that he wouldn't say that lightly. I just hope that I can live up to all their expectations.

There is so much more to write about, but I'm going to save it for later so that this won't get any longer.
